Ways of Working Nudge

The 'whole-job' team approach, Bell System Technical Journal, September 1983.

"The principle advantage of this approach is that the developers themselves have a close relation with the clients. This results in high motivation, flexibility and low overhead. It is a proven technique and has been in use on software projects for at least 10 years." i.e. since 1973!

This is 20 years before Scrum, 13 years before the 'New New Product Development Game' HBR article and is 52 years ago.

And yet there are organisations still today, in the context unique product development, who have ways of working set up as a relay race, with hand offs and distance between the consumer and the builders. e.g. expressions like 'the Product Team, the Engineering Team, the Project Management Team, the Run Team'.

1973. 52 years ago. This topic is not new.
