🌟 What is an experiment? 🌟

What do we mean by 'experiment' when used in the context of change and product development? Other words used might be epic or initiative.

An experiment is:

• Work conducted to support an outcome

• Which involves testing the outcome hypothesis (which has unknown unknowns)

• With a focus on a data feedback loop, measuring the outcome, rather than activity or output. We want early and often learning.

• An 'enabling constraint': a quarterly outcome has (at least) monthly experiments, which have weekly iterations which have daily stories which have hourly tasks. With continuous delivery of learning and value. We recommend timeboxing at each cadence, as forcing function, to surface impediments to time to value and learning.
